It’s been a while since I have posted on Recovery Management Suite and since it’s one of the most powerful backup and recovery software packages on the market I thought it deserved a mention again!
So what is Recovery Management Suite?
Answer: Recovery Management Suite is a comprehensive data protection and disaster recovery solution for VMware virtual environments. It unifies the functionality of backup, replication, granular recovery of VMs / files / application items, and disaster recovery automation for multi-tiered applications and full sites into a single integrated suite of products.
What Software Elements is Recovery Management Suite Comprised of?
There are three components to the Recovery Management Suite:
- PHD Virtual Backup and Replication
Protect your production VM data with scalable, image-based backups. There are no guest agents required for data processing and all backups allow for granular file and application item recovery, as well as Instant Recovery of full VMs. PHD Virtual Backup uses a small virtual machine called the Virtual Backup Appliance (VBA) to deliver advanced functionality, such as built-in global deduplication with block level verification, automated GFS retention, application aware processing for exchange and SQL, as well as built-in VM replication for disaster recovery. - CloudHook
CloudHook is an add-on module of PHD Virtual Backup that is completely integrated into the VBA and included in the Recovery Management Suite. CloudHook allows you to connect to cloud storage for easy, cost-effective off-site backup. Supported cloud storage providers are Amazon S3, Google Cloud Storage, and Rackspace CloudFiles. CloudHook also supports OpenStack/Swift platforms. - ReliableDR
ReliableDR automates complex disaster recovery tasks to drastically improve the speed of recovery for full application and site outages. The product requires the user to replicate VM data to the DR site using a supported software or storage based replication method. It then automates the recovery of applications and their dependencies (i.e. failover and failback) by mapping primary and secondary site configurations, booting machines in specific order, and automatically updating IP addresses to match DR networks for test and failover. One of the unique value-adds of ReliableDR is that it can significantly reduce risk of recovery issues during an outage because it automates application-specific verification to occur very frequently, with no impact to production. The verification process tests recoverability and also enforces stated RTOs and RPOs. When recoverability is validated, multiple known-good recovery points are saved for failover.
